Ende der Reise

An einem Tag verlierst Du, am nächsten Tag gewinnen die Anderen.
Das ging mir durch den Kopf, als ich mitten im Nirgendwo diesen alten, kaputten Reifen liegen sah. Viele Kilometer von der nächsten Werkstatt entfernt einen Platten zu haben ist sicher nicht das, was ich mir wünsche. Aber manchmal kann man sich sein Schicksal eben nicht aussuchen und bleibt mitten auf der Strecke liegen.
One day you are the loser, next day the others win.
This is what´s coming up on my mind when I saw this old, damaged tyre in the middle of nowhere. To have a flat tyre many Kilometers away from the next car shop is nothing I want to have. But sometimes your fate give no choice and you stop halfway between.

Über die gewählte Motivposition läßt sich trefflich diskutieren. Etwas näher, dann hätte man den Reifen und seinen Zustand besser gesehen. Aber dann wäre die Leere drumherum nicht mehr so gut zu sehen. Und da es genau diese Leere ist, die Du zeigen wolltest, finde ich die Perspektive genau richtig!

This photograph is another example for the problems when your are on location.
While making the picture I had to find the balance between the impression of a desert and hiding the background.
Choosing a lower perspective will show a river in the background which will blow off the illusion.
To get closer to the tyre was a similar problem. In this case the illusion of a desert ist lost, too.
So I´m happy that you like this compromise a little.

I like this shot. I think I would have liked to have seen it from a slightly lower perspective, and a little closer to the tire, to show off more of the ‘dirty’ profile of the tire.
I also think the tire could have been placed a little closer to the right side of the shot. I think it would have balanced the shot a bit more. Very nice, though.
